The Squiggle LED Mini Pendant from Rotaliana by Luminart is a piece that has been stewing in designer Paolo Rizzatto’s head since the time he first saw Lucio Fontana’s squiggly neon tubes installation as a child. Fontana’s work created an atmosphere and gave shape to light, two qualities Rizzato delivers on with this pendant. Rizzatto blazes his own trail by orienting his work towards technology and functionality. You get the design’s sense of versatile functionality with a glance at its silhouette, slim and refined to slot over the tightest spaces. It shows its cutting-edge side with an aluminum exoskeleton that has been machine-cut with eye-catching hexagonal shapes. A strip of LEDs follows the shape of the exoskeleton, giving the piece two qualities of light. When you turn it on, you’re greeted by a crisp stream of downlight through the pendant’s bottom opening. Another light softly filters through the irregular hexagonal shapes, creating a stylishly textured silhouette.
