The Varaluz Cosmos Chandelier from the Smithsonian collection uses multiple overlapping discs of genuine alabaster to create a solid ring around the bulbs within, both disguising them and diffuse their light into warm ambience. The bulbs are themselves evenly arranged around a ring-shaped frame, which is made entirely of recycled steel.
